Scoil Phádraig 0-5 1-10 Culleens

May 14, 2012

Scoil Phádraig were comprehensively beaten by a far hungrier Culleens outfit. Scoil Phádraig went into the halftime with a one point lead of 0-5 to 0-4. However, Scoil Phádraig failed to register a single score in the second half.

This performance was the complete opposite of the performance against the Quay. The Scoil Phádraig boys lacked any urgency in their play and were continuously outfought throughout the pitch. The lack of scores was down to the tenacity of the Culleens defence who were first for every ball and defended heroically throughout the game. The result flatters Scoil Phádraig and is a testament to the amount of work being put into the Culleens team by Mr. Byrne.

Scoil Phádraig 5-6 2-7 Quay

May 2, 2012

Scoil Phádraig got their North Mayo Gaelic Football league back on track with a brilliant display of committed football. From the throw in the Scoil Phádraig boys worked incredibly hard for every ball and managed to beat a very talented Quay team through hard work and a lot of talent. The focus from Scoil Phádraig was exceptional, and they managed to keep a quick talented Quay forward line to just 1-2 in the first half. This despite playing ‘up the hill’ which was more physically demanding. Martin Collins netted 2 opportunistic goals and was proving a handful for the Quay full back line. The performances throughout the team were exceptional, particularly Josh Delaney and Martin McDonagh in midfield who gave a display in athleticism and endeavour. The half time score was Quay 1-2 2-0 Scoil Phádraig.

The second half performance matched the first half display and the work-rate of the entire team was inspiring. Martin McDonagh(5) started to find some space and began to cause havoc in the Quay half back line. The work rate of the two midfielders didn’t drop and they were exhausted by the end of the game. This commitment was echoed throughout the team. Patrick Humber produced three superb saves to keep Scoil Phádraig in front. The final score finished on a resounding scoreline of Scoil Phádraig 5-6 2-7 Quay.

Team:Patrick Humber, Tommy Maughan, Enda Keenan, Harry Loftus, Szymon Warcocki, Lo Mee Cher, Michael Collins(6), Martin McDonagh(6), Josh Delaney 0-1, Martin McDonagh(5) 1-3, Jamie Moyles 0-2, Frank Maughan, Jordan Muldoon, Martin Collins 3-0, Roy Scott, Mickey Delaney 1-0, Michael Collins(5), Wicktor Bialowas, Ryan Sproule, Zaief Islam, Shaun Moyles

Scoil Phádraig 3-8 4-13 Breaffy

April 30, 2012

Scoil Phádraig lost a gripping league game played in very poor conditions. A gale force wind made playing conditions very difficult but both teams managed to produce some good football. Despite playing against the wind Scoil Phádraig went in at half time on a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-7.

The second half performance by David Naylor for Breaffy was the main difference between the two sides. He was at the heart of all of Breaffy’s scores. Unfortunately, Scoil Phádraig couldn’t match the high intensity performance from Breaffy and lost out to a fine side.

Team: Patrick Humber, Wicktor Bialowas, Tommy Maughan, Harry Loftus, Symon Warcocki, Enda Keenan, Declan Collins, Josh Delaney, Lo Mee Cher, Martin McDonagh(5), Martin McDonagh(6), Jamie Moyles, Jordan Muldoon, Martin Collins, Michael Lawrence, Frank Maughan, Roy Scott, John Lawrence, Ryan Sproule, Martin Sweeney, Mickey Delaney

Scoil Phádraig Scoop Innovation Prize!

April 26, 2012

Best Innovation Prize at Science Exhibition in Hotel Westport

Scoil Phádraig won a prize worth over €300 for their project on a Ballina App for a smartphone in the Mayo Science competition on Wednesday 26th of April. This was an excellent achievement from the 6th class boys who worked so hard on their project.

Lo Mee Cher, Ryan Sproule, Michael Lawrence, Jamie Moyles and Lukas Majchrzak were the entrants who forwarded their proposal for a Ballina App. The boys researched the relatively new software of applications and understood the importance of smartphones in accessing relevant information in a quick and concise manner.

The boys decided to display this proposal on a website and thus began the journey of website creation and collating information. The boys set up a class gmail account and this enabled them to access a variety of Google apps necessary for this project. With the gmail account they set up their own google site which was entitled Room 11 Ballina App. They saved all the relevant information on microsoft word but needed to change the format to google docs so that they could get an interactive link from their website. The boys also learned how to map any business or tourist attraction on google maps. This would make a business or tourist attraction easily located using GPS on a smartphone.

The Cathaoirleach of the Mayo County Council (Mr Austin O Malley) was very impressed by the proposal and he is looking into the possibility of making the proposal a reality. The level of competence shown by the boys in creating the website was astounding and the project was commended by the judges as being both innovative and professional.
Well done boys.

Scoil Phádraig 6-12 5-7 Rehins

March 15, 2012

Scoil Phádraig entertained Rehins N.S in a Gaelic Football challenge game on Tuesday 13th March. This was an entertaining game of football played in an exceptionally sporting manner.

Scoil Phádraig started the game in fine fashion with 3 excellent points coming from the boots of Martin McDonagh (5), Martin Collins and Jamie Moyles. Their dominance was stemming from a powerful display from the midfield pairing of Josh Delaney and Martin McDonagh (6). Lo Mee Cher and Enda Keenan were also stopping the flow of any Rehins attack through assured defensive displays.

Martin Collins then took over with 2 quick fire goals as full forward. Martin grew into the role and proved very difficult for the Rehins defence to contain. Martin McDonagh (5) gave an exhibition of point taking and scored 6 points from play. Rehins managed to score 2 quick goals at the end of the first half through Aiden Orme and Billy McVann which left the half time scoreline lead at 2-9 to 2-2 in favour of Scoil Phádraig.

The second half was not as convincing as the first half and Rehins began to dominate the middle of the field and started to win a lot of uncontested ball (which is obviously a cause for concern). There was some very mature performances especially from the 4th class boys Harry Loftus and Frank Maughan who had a great partneship down the left flank. Final score Scoil Phádraig 6-12 5-7 Rehins.

Scoil Phádraig team: Patrick Humber, Zaief Islam, Kyle Maloney, Reece Cawley, Wiktor Bialowas, Martin  Sweeney, Thomas Lawrence, Trevor Nash, Jack Delaney, Shaun Moyles, Michael Collins, Harry Loftus, Lo Mee Cher, Symon Warcocki, Enda Keenan, Declan Collins, Martin McDonagh 0-2, Josh Delaney, Martin McDonagh 1-8, Jamie Moyles 0-1, Frank Maughan 1-0, Mickey Delaney, Martin Collins 4-1, Jordan Muldoon.

Scoil Phádraig 9-5 3-2 Currabagan

February 23, 2012

Scoil Phádraig entertained Currabaggan N.S. in a challenge game on Thursday 23rd of February. This was an excellent game of committed football from both teams. Despite a very soft pitch, the standard of football was relatively high from both sides. This was a great start to the imminent football league and a lot of new faces got a taste of competitive Gaelic Football for the first time.

Scoil Phádraig got off to a great start when Niall Moran caught a delightful ball from Josh Delaney and dispatched it to the back of the net. The Currabaggan full back was finding it very difficult to cope with Moran’s movement and ability under the high ball. Jamie Moyles added a point. Patrik Tomasec unfortunately injured himself early on in the first half, despite having a great start to the game. Lo Mee Cher moved to half back and started to dominate the half back line with a magnificent performance in his first outfield start for the school. Niall Moran added another goal before Martin McDonagh scored the point of the game with a beautiful curling shot that was a joy to behold. Niall Moran added another 2 goals as did Martin McDonagh which left a half time scoreline of Scoil Phádraig 6-3 2-0 Currabaggan.

The second half was a bit scrappy and both teams lost their shape and a lot of fundamental errors crept into the game. The amount of frees that Scoil Phádraig conceded for poor pick ups and touching the ball on the ground was worrying and is a definite area which needs attention. The final scoreline was Scoil Phádraig 9-5 3-2 Currabaggan.

Team: Patrick Humber, Wiktor Bialowas, Martin Collins, Harry Loftus, Patrik Tomasec, Enda Keenan, Declan Collins, Martin McDonagh, Josh Delaney, Jamie Moyles 1-1, Lo Mee Cher, Frank Maughan, Jordan Muldoon, Niall Moran 4-1, Martin McDonagh 2-2, Ryan Sproule 2-0, Michael Collins 0-1, Roy Scott, John Lawrence, Gleb Gavrikov, Michael Lawrence,

The Horse Show Art Exhibition

December 22, 2011

The Horse Show Art Exhibition

On Thursday, 8th December, our class visited the Horse show Exhibition in the Gallery Space at Ballina U.D.C. Offices. Third Class came too and Mrs. Hickey brought some boys from her class also. We saw lots of pictures, photographs and sculptures of horses and there was even a DVD lasting 8 mins 22 sec about “Misneach”. This was about  a sculpture of a horse made out of bronze by the artist, John Byrne. It can be seen in Ballymun in Dublin. A local girl was the model for the sculpture and the artist wanted to show everybody the great part which horses have always played in the lives of the people and especially the children in Ballymun. We all enjoyed the art exhibition that day.
